Worst House on the Street is Channel 4’s new home development programme, bringing home renovations on a budget
This new series follows families planning to renovate their outdated properties and turn them into their dream home.
Channel 4 has come under fire for another of its recent property shows – George Clark’s Flipping Fast, which some viewers branded deadbeat because it showed developers trying to cut corners on homes they wanted to rent.
In Worst House of the Street, however, the owners renovate homes they live in rather than work to sell properties cheaply at the expense of others.
What is “Worst House on the Street” about?
Real estate developers Scarlette and Stuart Douglas meet couples who are in the process of turning run-down properties into trendy homes on budget.
The duo will offer their expertise from decades in the real estate industry to help homeowners achieve their dreams without breaking the bank in desperation.
In the first episode of the series, a couple in Croydon who are renovating their terraced property discover asbestos that could thwart their plans.
In the second episode, a couple in York plans to transform their decades-untouched estate into a desirable home.
Scarlette and Stuart will travel across the country to observe and advise on ambitious renovation projects and prove that they can be affordable.
Who are the hosts of Worst House on the Street?
Worst House on the Street is presented by brother-sister duo Scarlette and Stuart Douglas.
The two are professional real estate developers and have previously appeared on Channel 4’s Black to Front series which showcased black TV talent and replaced Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer for a special episode of Love it or List it.
Scarlette has been presenting on A Place in the Sun since 2015, where she helps find dream vacation homes for apartment seekers.
For this role, she won Best Presenter at the International Achievement Recognition Awards and the Black British Entertainment Awards.
Scarlette and Stuart also took part in George Clarke’s Flipping Fast where they mentored six teams investing £100,000 in property hoping to turn a profit over 12 months.
Stuart is a former professional footballer who has played for clubs including Luton Town and Boston United – he is now a physiotherapist for AFC Bournemouth.
He began buying and developing land on the site of the football clubs he played for and sold it for a substantial profit.
The couple own real estate development and interior design company Kindred Elite.
