Since Sarina Wiegman joined the team as coach, England have not lost a game and conceded just four goals.

Six of those 20 goals were scored by Beth Mead, one of England’s best strikers. Mead has scored more goals than any other player at this tournament and there is no doubt that both England fans and Lionesses will look to the Arsenal forward to help them bring it home.

Two years later, it was announced Arsenal Ladies had signed the forward on an undisclosed full-time contract. Arsenal also signed Dutch superstar Vivianne Miedema that same year, forcing Mead to play as a winger instead of her preferred number 9 position.

However, Mead continued to excel, finishing the 2017/18 season as the Gunners’ top scorer in the league with eight goals and also being voted Arsenal’s player of the season.

During the 2018–19 season, Mead and Miedema had developed a strong relationship that saw the pair score nine goals, more than any other duo, and Mead broke the record for most assists in a single season with 12.

As of July 2022, Mead has played 98 club games with the Gunners, scoring 34 goals.
