Valdir Segato went to gyms during his addiction treatment but wasn’t happy with the muscles he was building. Then, to get that really voluminous look, he dove into synthol oil injections in his biceps, pecs, and butt. Segato continued to receive synthol injections until his death, despite the significant risk they posed for stroke, infection, and amputation. However, it should be noted that the bulky appearance caused by synthol injections was temporary and didn’t actually promote muscle growth.

In 2016, doctors reportedly warned him about synthol oil abuse, warning him of the dangers, including “amputation, or at least nerve damage and muscle deformity,” if he persisted in the practice. However, Valdir Segato decided to continue administering the dangerous doses.

What is synthol oil and what are the risks for bodybuilding enthusiasts like Valdir Segato?

The ingredients in this oil are commonly used by bodybuilders to abuse the substance to create a voluminous look. The anesthetic lidocaine reduces the discomfort caused by the injection of synthol into the muscles. The concentration of alcohol seems to help cleanse the area and prevent infection in the meantime. They could still happen, however, as drinking alcohol isn’t always a surefire strategy for preventing infection.

When MCT is injected deep into the muscles, it begins to expand giving the appearance of being bulky. Synthol injections can lead to serious medical conditions that have a negative effect on the body in the long term. It can cause the muscles to take on an odd shape. It can also lead to muscle fibrosis, which can ultimately lead to amputation.
