Later, during his questioning by police, Shepard explained that his friend Thomas Michael Dixon gave him a box of expensive Cuban cigars and three bars of silver as compensation for Sonnier’s murder. In addition, the pawnshop records showed that Shepard had cashed the silver bars the day after the murder.
