Gregory Harter was working as a driving instructor for the Cedar Falls-based Street Smarts driver education program at the time of his death.

Gregory was riding in a Street Smarts car driven by a 14-year-old teenager from Waterloo.

According to the Iowa State Patrol’s accident report, the 2014 Chevrolet Impala being driven by the youngster ran into the shoulder of Highway 218 around 8:30 a.m. while traveling northbound.

The driver, Tabetha Gehrke, 44, of Waterloo, was driving a 2010 Toyota Highlander when she made an excessive right turn, crossing the southbound lanes and median and entering the northbound lanes.

Both drivers were injured and the teenage passenger of the Waverly Impala was taken to hospitals in Waterloo.

The State Patrol reports that the crash is still under investigation. The Bremer County Sheriff’s Office, the Waverly Ambulance, the Iowa Department of Transportation and the state coroner arrived at the scene along with the Janesville Fire Department and Police Department.
