Kaluuya was born in London to Ugandan parents and grew up on a council estate near Camden Town. He attended Torriano Primary School and St Aloysius’ College, Highgate, before moving on to Camden School for Girls, a sixth-form co-ed semi-comprehensive college.

Kaluuya’s acting career began when he attended Anna Scher Theater School and WAC Arts as a child. His first recognized acting role was in the BBC’s controversial drama Shoot the messenger in 2006.
