Where is Home and Away filmed?

Home and Away is filmed in two locations in and around Sydney, Australia.

The first spot is the indoor studio in Redfern, where most of the indoor scenes are shot.

The second location is Summer Bay, actually Palm Beach in Sydney, where the exterior scenes are shot.

Is Summer Bay real?

Summer Bay is a real area, but it’s actually called Palm Beach.

It is located in a suburb in the North Beach region of Sydney, New South Wales.

Known as ‘Palmy’ by locals, it is home to some of Australia’s wealthiest people and is a popular spot for celebrities in the warmer summer months.

All of the exterior scenes for Home and Away are shot here and the exterior sets include the beach areas of Summer Bay and the exteriors of some of the houses, the surf club and Alf’s Bait Shop.

While in Sydney you can visit many of the soap opera’s iconic filming locations.

You can visit Summer Bay and see the outdoor sets first hand.

No tours are available for Redfern Studios as public access is not permitted.

One of the exciting perks is the chance to catch a glimpse of the filming.

Although this can never be guaranteed, Home and Away is shot on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with a two-week break in June or July.

The tour company quotes the odds as “50/50” if you come on a Monday or Tuesday and “one to three” if you leave on a Wednesday.
