What is the Queen’s Speech?

The Queen’s Speech is an official speech given by the Queen to the House of Lords on the occasion of the State Opening of Parliament.

Her Majesty traditionally delivers a speech in which she outlines the forthcoming legislative program for Parliament over the course of the next year.

This includes announcements on key policies that MPs will be working on throughout the year.

When is the Queen’s speech 2022?

This year’s Queen’s Speech takes place on Tuesday 10 May.

But for the first time in almost 60 years, the Queen herself will not be present.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement: “The Queen continues to suffer from episodic mobility issues and, in consultation with her doctors, has reluctantly decided that she will not attend the State Opening of Parliament tomorrow.

“At the request of Her Majesty and with the consent of the relevant authorities, the Prince of Wales will read the Queen’s speech on behalf of Her Majesty, with the Duke of Cambridge also present.”

Instead, her son, Prince Charles, will deliver her address to the House of Lords.

The Queen’s throne in the House of Lords will remain vacant during the ceremony, while Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall sit in their usual seats.

Prince William will sit on the opposite side from Camilla.

What will be announced at Queen’s Speech 2022?

The Queen’s speech is often raised by MPs, with issues such as Brexit taking center stage in recent years.

Although the contents of the speech are not pre-confirmed or publicly announced, credible predictions are often made.

This year is expected to see some major announcements related to the rising cost of living and post-pandemic economic growth.

One area that should also be highlighted is the government’s plan for alignment.

These include tenancy reform laws and a new renewal law that will force landlords to lease commercial properties to rejuvenate city centers.

Commentary is expected on the Brexit Freedoms Bill, while announcements on the Broadcatsing Act – which includes the privatization of Channel 4 – are also expected.
