Philadelphia police say James Lambert was attacked at 2:38 a.m. on June 24 while crossing Cecil B. Moore Avenue near North 21st Street.

On Friday, PPD posted video of the attack that killed 73-year-old Lambert on YouTube. They said the people who did it were three girls and four boys who appeared to be in their early to mid-teens.

His family say they are heartbroken and saw him just hours before the attack.

A police website said the teenagers repeatedly hit the victim with objects, knocking him to the ground and injuring his brain. The injured man was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries the next day.

In the video you can see how the young people from the neighborhood run away. One of them even got on a scooter and appeared to be talking to another youth right after the attack. A youth was also seen running down the sidewalk.

As with every unsolved murder in Philadelphia, the city is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case.

Police are urging anyone who sees the youths to call 911 immediately. Anyone with knowledge of the attack is asked to call, text, or go online to report anonymously at 215-686-(8477).

Lambert’s family, who called him “Simmie,” told NBC10’s Danny Freeman that they were very saddened by his death.
