The university said Capri died on June 25 after suffering from cancer for more than a decade. In the summer of 2014, she became the head coach of the FAU sand volleyball team.
She quickly made the team a national powerhouse, consistently finishing in the top 25 and climbing to 8th nationally.
In 2021, Grotowski led the Owls to unprecedented heights. She led FAU to their first CCSA championship and the highest AVCA ranking at the time (No. 11). On April 9, her team beat North Florida 3-2, surpassing 100 wins.
