Calum von Moger, the former Mr Universe, has revealed his injuries from a mysterious window fall that left him fighting for his life.
The 31-year-old was placed in an induced coma after a near-fatal fall at his home in Melbourne last month.
“It’s nice to be alive,” he said on Instagram on Sunday (June 5) for the first time in five weeks.
Here’s everything you need to know about him.
Who is Calum von Moger?
Calum von Moger is an Australian actor and bodybuilder best known for his role as a young Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 2018 film Bigger.
He started bodybuilding at the age of 14 when he and his brother discovered old, rusty dumbbells in a warehouse and decided to use them.
As soon as he started uploading videos of his body and exercises on the internet, von Moger became instantly famous and currently has over 3 million Instagram followers.
What happened to him?
Before he fell out of a second floor window on May 6, the bodybuilder posted a passionate message to his fans on Instagram, in which he admitted he “fucked up a lot of times.”
Von Moger was seriously injured in the fall and required surgery. He was then placed in an induced coma, leading some fans to believe he might never be able to walk again.
Construction workers nearby reported hearing glass breaking, screams and screams before police cars and ambulances arrived.
Boarded up windows and broken glass on the floor were seen in disturbing images taken at von Moger’s home in Geelong, a city southwest of Melbourne.
Large furnishings such as a refrigerator and a couch were later observed being removed from the home and loaded into a trailer.
He spent 11 days at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne.
Why was he in court?
He was on bail and living with his brother while awaiting court appearance on May 26 after being charged with criminal racketeering and possession of narcotics; He was also reportedly kicked out of his family’s home in recent months after a series of setbacks.
The narcotics were discovered after von Moger was pulled over by Melbourne police in January after officers noticed his Ford Ranger was unregistered.
He was arrested, but von Moger stated in his interview that the drugs belonged to friends he was out with that weekend.
He appeared in court via video link with his arm in a sling and pleaded guilty to carrying drugs including testosterone, cannabis and methamphetamine.
Moger’s attorney told the court that his client was also depressed and would be entering a rehabilitation program – he was fined $287.41 to the court.
What are his injuries?
Von Moger reportedly suffered a serious spinal injury after falling from a second-story window, necessitating surgery, and now faces a long road of physical and mental rehabilitation.
Von Moger shared a 30-second video from his hospital bed with his 3.3million Instagram followers, showing dozens of stitches on his arms, hands and even his face.
He also shared photos of other injuries to his legs and feet, covered with bandages and bruises, on his Instagram Stories.
Fellow bodybuilder and YouTuber Nick Trigilli claimed the three-time Mr. Universe winner was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident, having battled a meth addiction.
Von Moger suffered head and brain injuries, which is why doctors kept him in an induced coma for so long, according to Trigilli.
“A lot of fluid had accumulated and his head was obviously damaged,” he said. “They were afraid to take him out of the coma because – God forbid – there was a lot of damage, then he could have permanent damage, they didn’t want that.”
As part of his recovery, von Mogero appears to be back in the gym, posting a video of himself on a weight bench.
