Cory Aughey, 6, had been in hospital after an accident while on holiday in Spain
Tributes have been paid to a six-year-old boy who died while on holiday in Spain.
Corey Aughey was reportedly involved in a swimming pool accident and ended up in intensive care while on vacation.
It was also reported that the boy, from the Shankhill area of Belfast, had been holidaying with his family in Sa Coma, Mallorca.
“Most fun loving caring 6 year old boy”
Thousands of pounds had been raised on a Facebook fundraiser called Corey’s Army. Almost £13,000 has been raised so far.
In a post following the swimming accident, Maxine McCullough said: “We all know our Corey has plenty of support but for those who don’t know him he had a tragic accident in Spain in the pool and is currently in intensive care in Spain.
The post went on to describe him as the “funniest, caring 6-year-old boy you will ever meet.”
However, in a heartbreaking update on Sunday, a post on the site said Corey had passed away. It said: “We as a family would like you to know that King Corey has gotten his wings. The family would not have got through this without all your support. We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of your kind donations.
“Now we have to focus on bringing him home. Please keep praying that the family will get the strength to get through the next few weeks!!!
“King Corey’s Army…xXx”…
In another social media post, Thomas Mathers wrote: “It is with great sadness that I heard the news that little Corey passed away. Unfortunately, he lost his brave fight.

Dale Pankhurst, Belfast Councilor for Oldpark, North Belfast, also expressed his sadness at Corey’s death, writing on Twitter: “Deeply saddened to hear that young Corey has passed away. A really small character who was always full of life whenever I saw him.”
Another post from ‘Pride of Ardoyne on parade’ said: “The officers and members of the Pride of Ardoyne FB are deeply saddened to learn of the death of little Corey following a tragic accident whilst on holiday.

And former DUP MLA William Humphrey wrote: “What terrible news. A real tragedy.
“May God bless and support the Aughey family in the days to come.”
Corey was a member of the Beaver Section of the 45th Belfast Scout Group. The group paid tribute to him in a Facebook post, saying: “This is extremely sad news and the thoughts and prayers of everyone connected with the 45th are with his family at this heartbreaking time. Corey will be fondly remembered by his Beaver Leaders – fun-loving, always smiling and full of enthusiasm. We will miss him so much.”
