A Tory leadership debate between Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss has been suspended after an incident happened in the studio during the debate.

At the event, hosted by TalkTV and The Sun, members of the public put direct questions to both candidates on a variety of topics including the cost of living and the NHS.

Ms Truss was answering a question when a crack was heard, with the Secretary of State looking shocked before cautiously exiting her podium and appearing to try to help the situation.

The transmission then stopped with a technical problem message appearing on the screen.

The TalkTV stream has now started broadcasting an unscheduled live chat show hosted by presenter Ian Collins.

Mr Collins told viewers there had been a “medical issue” at the studio and said everyone at the studio, including Mr Sunak and Ms Truss, is fine.

A spokeswoman for The Sun said: “There has been a medical issue, we hope to be back on the air soon.”
