TalkTV has confirmed that a medical incident involving debate moderator Kate McCann has forced the show off the air.

What happened in the Tory leadership debate?

At the event, hosted by TalkTV and The Sun, members of the public put direct questions to both candidates on a variety of topics including the cost of living and the NHS.

Ms Truss was answering a question when a crack was heard, with the Secretary of State looking shocked before cautiously exiting her podium and appearing to try to help the situation.

The transmission then stopped with a technical problem message appearing on the screen.

The TalkTV stream began broadcasting an unscheduled live chat show hosted by host Ian Collins.

Mr Collins told viewers there had been a “medical issue” at the studio and said everyone at the studio, including Mr Sunak and Ms Truss, is fine.

It has now been confirmed by TalkTV that debate moderator Kate McCann passed out during the programme.

The moderator is “fine,” said the broadcaster, but the debate could not continue.

A statement from TalkTV said: “Kate McCann passed out on air tonight and although she is fine, medical advice has been that we should not continue the debate.

“We apologize to our viewers and listeners.”

Mr Sunak and Ms Truss conveyed their best wishes to Ms McCann following the incident.

Mr Sunak tweeted: “Good news you @KateEMcCann are already recovering.

“It was a great debate and I look forward to being grilled by you again shortly.”

Ms Truss said: “Relieved to hear @KateEMcCann is doing well. I’m really sorry that such a good debate had to end.

“Look forward to meeting Kate and the rest of the @TheSun @TalkTV team again soon.”

Kate McCann is the current political editor at TalkTV.

Before her appointment to the news channel earlier this year, Ms McCann was Sky News’ Westminster correspondent.

She also worked at The Sun and The Daily Telegraph before joining Sky News in 2018.
