The Premier League’s most expensive replica shirts for 2022/23

Our exclusive analysis shows that the price of replica jerseys has seen inflation-busting surges at every Premier League club. But which clubs have the most expensive kits?

Following one of England’s biggest football clubs can be an expensive proposition, especially at a time of a livelihood crisis.

Fans could have to shell out as much as £115 to buy a replica shirt for their favorite Premier League club this season, research from Mazic News shows.

Across all 20 Premier League clubs, an adult replica shirt costs £63 on average in 2022/23, an inflation-busting increase of 23% in five years.

Our analysis shows that shirt prices have risen faster than inflation at every Premier League club over the past five years.

Tottenham Hotspur have the most expensive home kits this season, with a standard adult kit costing £75, a children’s version costing £60 and an ‘authentic’ replica of the kit as worn by players on the pitch, which is the Bringing fans a staggering £115. The kits are produced by Nike.

A spokesman for the club said: “Price increases from 2021/22 result from increases in general costs such as manufacturing, materials and shipping. The 2022-23 jerseys continue to reflect the commitment of both the club and Nike to offer fans the most innovative and highest quality product possible.

“The club will reduce the price of t-shirt printing on children’s clothing by £5. This means that the price of a children’s shirt with player name and number on the back remains the same as last season.”

The prices at Spurs have been followed very closely by those at Chelsea, who also have a Nike-produced kit. The replica shirts cost £74.95 for adults, £59.95 for children and £114.95 for the ‘authentic’ adult version.

Brentford has the cheapest adult shirts in the Premier League. The club have a two-year lifecycle for their home kit to encourage sustainability, and their 2021-23 Umbro-produced kits retail at £49 for adults. The club also have the cheapest children’s replica shirts at £40 – the same price as Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Our analysis is based on the price of a standard non-personalized adult men’s and women’s home shirt, as well as the children’s version. For Leeds United, where the home shirt is not yet on sale due to supplier issues, we have taken the price of the away shirt.

Earlier research by the BBC revealed that five years ago, in the 2017-18 season, the average cost of a Premier League replica shirt was £52 for adults. That’s £56 today, meaning shirt prices have risen almost three times faster than inflation.

In addition to an overall inflation rate, the Office for National Statistics produces individual inflation numbers for specific types of products that show how prices have changed over the years.

This shows that over the five years from June 2017 to June 2022, ‘clothes’ prices in the UK have only increased by 8%.

Every Premier League club has seen shirt prices rise faster than this Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rate for clothing.

The club that has seen the biggest rise in replica jersey prices above inflation is Fulham. The adult jersey is £70 this season compared to £50 five years ago – a 40% increase.

The lowest price increase is in Southampton, where a shirt was £50 five years ago but is now £55 – a 10% increase.
