The water company has announced “temporary” measures as southern and central England prepare to sizzle in 30C heat
Around 15 million households in the UK will be hit with a hose ban amid a heatwave in August, Thames Water has confirmed.
A spokesman for Thames Water said: “With the long-term forecast of dry weather and a further forecast of very hot temperatures to come this week, we plan to announce a temporary ban on use in the coming weeks.
“We have written to the Environment Agency to update them on our approach and informed Ofwat.
“The timing is unconfirmed due to a number of operational and legal procedural requirements, but we will update our customers, partners, regulators and stakeholders at the earliest opportunity to ensure a coordinated approach.
“In the meantime, we continue to urge our customers to only use what they need for their essential use.”
