“We know that costs can add up during the school holidays, so offering free meals for children with every item purchased in our cafes for an adult is one of the ways we’re supporting parents during this time.”

Are there similar offers in other supermarkets?

Rival supermarket Asda is offering kids a hot meal in its cafes for £1 this summer, with no minimum adult spend.

The discount is available every day from 25th July to 4th September in England and Wales.

Hot and cold meals are provided for everyone under the age of 16, and baby food is also offered as part of the initiative.

Little ones can enjoy a free pouch of Ella’s Kitchen baby food (70g pouch) at their local Asda cafe.

An Asda spokesman said: “We know families can find the summer holidays tough and our customers tell us they’re worried about the holiday hunger more than ever this year.

“In light of this we are delighted to be able to offer children’s meals for just £1 with no adult minimum spend to ensure those who normally depend on a school meal do not have to go without it.”
