Star Wars star John Boyega considered quitting acting due to paranoia

Returning from a hiatus, actor John Boyega explains how he overcame a difficult period in his career and raves about his upcoming roles.

John Boyega has admitted that he had considered quitting acting after consecutive roles had left him feeling “exhausted” and “paranoid”.

The actor, 30, from Peckham, explained men healththat he had to take a break from starring in Star Wars: Episode VII, Pacific Rim: Uprising, and the stage play Woyzeck.

During his hiatus, the star worked to get stronger physically and mentally, which can be seen in his revamped appearance with a sculpted frame and clean faded hairstyle.

“You’re tired of your own dream of what you love,” John said of his trying patch in 2017.

The actor, who is the son of Nigerian immigrants, added that he was caught off guard by the racist abuse he received online for his role in Star Wars.

He believes that talking about his experiences will help future actors entering the film industry.

John explained that Robert Downey Jr. warned him he would be going through “turbulence” before finding his identity and claims he has now surrounded himself with a circle of trusted people to help and motivate him.

“I’m very interested in people who can go into dark spaces and flip that,” John added.

The next few months will be exciting for the actor as he has three movies coming to the big screen: Breaking, The Woman King and They Cloned Tyrone.

He also has work with his own company UpperRoom Productions.

John Adedayo B. Adegboyega was born on March 17, 1992 in Peckham, South London.

His father was a Pentecostal preacher who wanted John to follow in his footsteps, and his mother, Abigail Boyega, works with disabled people.

At the age of five, John realized that he wanted to pursue an acting career and began directing all his efforts towards that goal.

He was discovered at the age of nine in a school play by Teresa Early, the director of Peckham Theatre, and joined the theater along with other children his own age.

In the years that followed, the actor enrolled at the University of Greenwich to study for a BA in film studies and media writing, but dropped out to pursue his acting career.

In 2011, John found his breakthrough when he was offered a role in 2011’s Attack the Block, playing Moses.

Following the success, it was confirmed in 2014 that John would star in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
