The 23-year-old from Canada explained on his social media accounts that he was not “prepared” for the toll that touring would take.

In a lengthy post, he told fans he is prioritizing his health but will continue to make new music and hopes to tour in the future.

The announcement comes just three weeks after the Treat you Better songwriter postponed upcoming shows and said he wanted to “take care of me and my mental health.”

Shawn only played seven of his planned 87 tour dates across the US and Europe.

After being unable to tour during the pandemic, he admitted he was “not at all ready for how difficult touring was going to be after this time”.

Back when he was talking about the world tour, Mendes recounted 102.7 KIISfm: “It’s exciting, like I’m full of nervous energy, but it’s just like it’s been a long time.”

The Shawn Mendes Wonder (The World Tour) has since been cancelled, after just seven performances by the musician.

“I started this tour excited to finally be able to play live again after a long hiatus due to the pandemic, but the reality is I wasn’t prepared at all for how difficult touring was going to be after this time.”

Shawn explained that he spoke to his team and other healthcare professionals, who agreed that he needed to take time to focus on himself.

He added they hope he can pick up appointments after a “much needed time off” but has decided to continue to put his health first.

“That doesn’t mean I won’t be making new music and I can’t wait to see you guys on tour in the future.

“I know you’ve all been waiting so long to see these shows and it breaks my heart to tell you this, but I promise I’ll be back once I’ve taken the proper time to to heal,” Shawn added.
