Rhode Island cop drops out of state senate race after allegedly BEATING his female opponent at abortion rally!

The Rhode Island Senate race will be down one candidate after a shocking incident over the weekend.

police officer Jean Lugo dropped out afterwards a video showed him physically striking his female opponent at a rally protesting the unprecedented overthrow of Roe v. Wade protested.

Jennifer Roukea reproductive rights organizer, had just finished his speech Lugo, who was reportedly off duty at the Providence event, allegedly assaulted them. The Providence Police Department announced its investigation in a statement Saturday morning:

“The Providence Police Department is criminally investigating the conduct of an off-duty Providence police officer during a protest at the Rhode Island State House last night in which a female was assaulted.”

Regarding Jeann’s current status with the department, they added that he was “placed on paid administrative leave this morning pending a criminal investigation and regulatory review.”

For real?? Are you still paying him??

He was later charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct before being released on his own. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 8.

Jennifer explained what happened in a tweet alongside video of the attack on Saturday:

“I am a reproductive rights organizer and a candidate for the State Senate. Last night, after I spoke at our Roe rally, my Republican opponent – a police officer – violently assaulted me. That’s what it is to be a black woman running for office. I will not give up.”

Jennifer also revealed this in a statement persons to the incident:

“I de-escalated the situation and the counter-protester was about to leave when my Republican opponent Jeann Lugo punched me in the face multiple times.”

Jennifer has reportedly filed charges with the State and Providence Police Department.

She continued her statement by adding:

“Political violence like this is exactly why people like me often don’t run for office. Working-class candidates, blacks and browns face violence and threats across the country.”

Jeann, who has not disputed the claims, gained weight Twitter Saturday to announce his withdrawal from the State Senate race before deactivating his account by simply writing:

“I will not be running for office this fall.”

Um yeah, we think that’s probably for the best…

Jeann further explained his position on the situation in a statement released to the Boston globe:

“Unfortunately, as an officer sworn to protect and serve our communities, I found myself in a situation that no individual should find themselves in. I stepped in to protect someone who was being attacked by a group of agitators.”

He can twist it however he wants, but the fact of the matter is that he still physically assaulted a woman! And all this on video!

Mayor of Providence Jorg Elorza also commented on the clip of the attack:

“I saw the video and it is immensely disturbing. Those responsible will be held fully accountable.”
