Rachel Stevens and Alex Bourne, who have two children together, split a month before their 13th wedding anniversary
Rachel Stevens will be filling in as guest DJ for Heart Radio’s regular presenters, who are currently on vacation, starting next month.
Although the role is temporary, bosses at major radio stations have said they are keen on bringing the former S Club 7 star and their staff on board.
When Rachel joins Heart Radio, she would join the star-studded cast including Amanda Holden, Emma Bunton and Kelly Brook to name a few.
The new position is seen as a “fresh start” for Rachel, who recently split from her husband of 12 years.
The Dancing on Ice contestant married her childhood sweetheart Alex Bourne at Claridge’s in August 2009, but news of their split came just a month before their 13th wedding anniversary.
Taking to social media to announce her decision, Rachel said: “I just wanted to let you all know that after some time and consideration, the difficult decision has been made for Alex and I to separate.
“While we are no longer spouses, we will remain partners in parenting for our beautiful girls and will continue with love and respect for one another.”
The couple, who have been married for 12 years, have known each other since they were 12.
Her wedding was attended by Rachel’s S Club 7 bandmates and the singer walked down the aisle to the band’s hit Never Had A Dream Come True.
Just before they announced their split, Rachel opened up about their relationship on Roxie Nafousi’s podcast, The Moments That Made Me.
She said: “We were children’s favourites. We dated when we were 12, we met at a youth club and I was infatuated with him.
“We were together for about four weeks and if you’re that age, that was a really long time!
“We then dated again when we were 16 and then again when we were 18 and then we broke up, you know, I went out and did my thing, he went out and did his thing. “
Rachel, 44, and Alex, 45, share two daughters, 11-year-old Amelie and 8-year-old Minnie.
In conversation with Hi! magazineRachel said she’s “encouraging but not pushy” with her eldest daughter as she begins to follow in her footsteps.
The similarities to her mother continue as Amelie also kickstarts her new career by starring in the West End as a young Cosette in Les Miserables.
Rachel said: “Amelie is really running this herself – I’m encouraging but not pushy and from everything I’ve learned from my career I try to give her the best advice I can and be there for her questions to be. ”
The mother-of-two added that she tells the girls that although someone can open the door for them, they have to be the ones who have to prove what they can do.
