The fourth season of Westworld, a long-awaited and much-talked-about sci-fi drama, finally aired worldwide on HBO on June 26, 2022, a day early. The show is based on a major 1973 film and Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy came up with the idea. The current season will consist of eight episodes. There will be plenty of drama and action, as well as subtle emotional undertones and character struggles that will have fans glued to their screens.
Since its launch in 2016, the HBO series has won 9 Primetime Emmy Awards, including one for Thandiwe Newton in 2018 for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Not many people know this, but the show has fans around the world and has been praised.
After the end of season 3, the fourth season starts seven years later. It has been called a “dark odyssey about the fate of sentient life on Earth”.
We watched Westworld season 3 end when Caleb, Maeve and Wood’s previous character Dolores destroyed and broke the AI system that had been keeping humans on a predetermined path. Fans wanted to see this revolution through to the end, but Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy revealed why she wasn’t interested.
Season 4 of Westworld takes place seven years after the horrifying events of Season 3. In Season 4 we see that the revolution is over and mankind is no longer a slave to Rehoboam created by Engerra and Serac (Vincent Cassel). .
Rehoboam was an artificial intelligence (AI) system that could see what would happen to humans in the future. It even went so far as to literally control everyone’s life by deciding what decisions each person would make and how they would make them. It also proved that free will was a myth, at least until Dolores, Caleb, and Maeve showed up and helped stop it.
Westworld Season 3 is set in a futuristic version of Los Angeles in 2053. Season 4 takes place around the year 2060.
In a recent interview with Newsweek, co-creator Lisa Joy, who made this show with her husband Jonathan Nolan, spoke about how while some people might have focused more on the immediate ramifications of an event like this, she thought so too would have been a lot. But I think war is the most basic kind of tragedy because it doesn’t make sense. It’s just awful, do you know what I’m saying? There’s not much more to say about it than how awful it is and how sad it is that people are getting to this point or how sad it is that so many people have died. And what worries me is how war changes people and what we can learn from it. How do we get through there?
She also said: “Because these cycles of violence have happened over and over again throughout history. It seems like people are hardwired to want to fight against tribalism. I didn’t want Westworld to be like a sports show where people watch who they’re going to kick ass. Instead, I wanted to show the aftermath of the war and its very real cost and impact.
Alison Schapker, executive producer of Westworld, says the time jump in season 4 is because Jonathan and Lisa have a plan for each season and what they want to focus on. She says, “Well, I think that Jonathan and Lisa have a vision for each season and what they want to focus on, and I think that last season, season 3, really built that fight against that algorithmic control of Rehoboam . And in a way, that wouldn’t end with just one gambit. It was like the genie was out of the bottle.
She also said, “So I think that’s where they wanted it to start, and the other thing I want to say is I really think we wanted to explore that topic.” If hosts in this new model stay, we can’t just go back to humans. What could this relationship be? And can hosts ever get past where they came from?”
Jeffrey Wright, Ed Harris, Luke Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Angela Sarafyan and Aaron Paul also have roles in Season 4 of Westworld. It premiered worldwide on HBO on June 26, 2022 and airs every Sunday at 9 p.m. ET. You can stream episodes on HBO Max.
