Physical is an American comedy-drama series starring Australian actress Rose Byrne as a tortured housewife-turned-businesswoman
Physical returned for a second season in June this year, with episodes releasing weekly on the Apple TV+ streaming service.
Desperate Housewives and Suburgatory producer Annie Weisman spawned the dark comedy series about a housewife who finds dreams beyond the drudgery of home and sets out to make them come true.
The show stars Mrs. America actress Rose Byrne as a housewife under siege, while stand-up comedian and Superstore actor Rory Scovel plays her husband.
What is “Physical” about?
Physical follows Sheila, a woman dissatisfied with her life as a bored housewife.
She finds an outlet for her frustrations and a chance at life from an unlikely source – the world of aerobics.
Sheila strikes out on her own to build a fitness empire, make money for herself, and gain an identity and life separate from her husband.
The series is set in 1980’s San Diego and many scenes are reminiscent of Jane Fonda’s infamous training tapes from the period. There are many jerseys, leg warmers and lycra to see.
In the second series, Sheila tries to build a lifestyle brand while battling an eating disorder and dealing with tumultuous events in her personal life.
The show isn’t based on a true story, although many who remember the ’80s will be nostalgic for the era, and the character of Sheila is inspired by Annie Weisman’s own past.
When is the Physical season 2 release date?
The final episode of Season 2 of Physical was released on August 5th on Apple TV+.
The synopsis for the finale reads, “As Sheila and Greta embark on a new endeavor, Danny wants what he thinks he deserves.”
All episodes of seasons 1-2 are now available to watch on Apple TV+. There are ten episodes in each season and each episode is 30 minutes long.
Will there be a third season of Physical?
A third season of the show is not confirmed at this time.
The second season of Physical was announced in August 2021 ahead of the season one finale, but that wasn’t the case this time.
Critical response to season two has been positive — it has a fresh 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes — and this may encourage producers to green-light another season.
Rose Byrne told ‘Deadline’ why she hopes there’ll be another season: “The setup on that pilot that we did two years ago with Craig Gillespie was this aerobics personality, that’s the first frame of that pilot.
“And it would be exciting to actually be able to achieve that, to tie it, to finally get to that final stitch, which we did for the first time in 2020.”
If Physical season 3 gets the green light, it will likely come to Apple TV+ in June 2023.
It’s still possible that a third season will be confirmed in the next few weeks – so keep an eye out for updates on the fate of Physical season 3 at this point.
