The incident took place late Friday evening (5 August) at Parkdean holiday park, which is close to Camber Sands beach.

So where exactly is Camber Sands – and what do we know so far about the death which Sussex Police are treating as a suspected homicide?

Where is Camber Sands?

Camber Sands is a beach on the border of East Sussex and Kent in south-east England.

Camber Sands, a sandy beach running from the River Rother and the town of Rye to the east, stretches for seven miles until it reaches shingle near Dungeness, Kent.

The Parkdean holiday park is close to the beach and borders a holiday resort of Pontins.

The family orientated resort is one of 66 Parkdean resorts operating along the coasts of England, Scotland and Wales.

What do we know about Camber Sands’ death?

According to Mazic News’s sister title, SussexWorld, emergency services were called to the Camber Sands area at 10.50pm on Friday 5 August.

A Sussex Police spokesman said there had been reports of an altercation involving a group of people on Lydd Road – a road that passes Parkdean Resort.

The game was featured on The Showbar on the website.

However, it is unclear if the football match was the cause of the altercation.

Paramedics were at the scene alongside police trying to rescue a 58-year-old man after the incident.

However, he was pronounced dead at the scene in the early hours of Saturday (August 6).

The emergency services said his next of kin had been informed and were being assisted by specialist officers.

Six people have been arrested on suspicion of murder, Sussex Police said and have been remanded in custody.

Sussex Police have also tried to reassure the public.

“Our investigation is at a very early stage, but I would like to reassure the public that this appears to be an isolated incident with no major risk of harm,” Detective Superintendent Jon Hull said in a statement.

“Officials are now working to establish the full circumstances, while the victim’s next of kin are being assisted by specialist officers.”
