Some O2 customers can change handsets as often as they like and may be available at no additional cost
Mobile operator O2 will allow some new and existing customers to exchange their phone for a new one at any time during the contract period at no additional cost.
From Thursday (10 August), the O2 Switch Up option is automatically included with all of the company’s Plus plans, or can be added to other custom plans as a Bolt On for £3.99 a month.
What is O2 Switch Up?
According to O2, users can change their phone as often as they like within their contract, with no restrictions on how long customers must have their current handset or how long their existing contract is left.
The company said the deal will allow users to enjoy the latest handsets without having to pay extra for them.
O2 confirms that the new offer will not be available for sim only plans.
What did O2 say?
Gareth Turpin, Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Media O2, said: “We are tearing up the rule book and giving our customers even more freedom and flexibility to stay in control.
“O2 Switch Up gives our customers the power to choose what phone they have and when they have it, all on their terms and with the peace of mind that their previous phone is not going to waste.
“With a whole host of exciting new phones set to launch in the coming months, we can’t wait for our customers to make the switch and get the most out of their new phones.”
The mobile operator said traded-in phones are refurbished and resold as so-called “like new” devices.
