At the Banff World Media Festival on Tuesday (June 14), Netflix announced a new reality TV show based on the hit series Squid Game would make his way to the platform.

Thankfully, this real-world version isn’t a matter of life or death for the contestants, but the show will remain similar to the original show in many ways – namely 456 contestants competing in a series of games to win a huge cash prize.

The show will consist of 10 episodes and comes after social media star Mr Beast did his own unofficial Squid Game Competition on YouTube in November, which has since racked up more than 250 million views.

Mr. Beast’s video was praised by Squid Game Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who said he “loved” it, while Netflix hasn’t commented.

The Competition is a co-production between Studio Lambert (The Circle) and The Garden (24 Hours in A&E), part of ITV Studios, and is filmed in the UK.

Netflix has launched a major open casting call looking for English speakers from around the world who would like to take part in the game. The requirement that participants speak English is perhaps debatable given the original Squid Game was entirely in Korean.

To apply go to Squid Game Casting where you will see the option to choose between US Casting, UK Casting and Global Casting.
