Muse are back and taking new technologies into their hearts.
The British rock band are gearing up for the release of their latest album Will of the People, but this album has a twist.
No stranger to incorporating the latest technology into their music, band members Matt Bellamy, Chris Wolstenholme and Dominic Howard are embracing NFTs and putting them at the heart of the latest album release.
But how will it work and what can we expect from the new album?
Why is Will of the People an NFT?
Muse have announced that they hope to be the first music act to enter the official charts with a Digital Pressing Album.
The album, created in collaboration with eco-friendly music web3 marketplace Serenade, allows fans to get their hands on a limited edition digital collector format.
It will reward the Devon rock band super fans with custom designs to collect.
Muse will likely be one of the first music artists ever to chart using the format.
Martin Talbot, Chief Executive, Official Charts Company, says: “Throughout its seven decades, the Official Charts have endeavored to move with the times and to reflect the consumption of new formats and all new ways of distributing music as it has evolved.
“As vinyl, 8-track, cassettes, CDs and even MiniDisc, DCC and DAT entered the charts, we will also welcome Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) – and we will be delighted to see the first album delivered that way an NFT contributes to the chart, with Serenade and Muse leading this summer.
“NFTs are an exciting new format that is just beginning to be explored and I’m sure it will feature prominently on the official charts for years to come.”
Sebastian Simone, Vice President, Audience & Strategy, Warner Records UK, adds: “We are delighted to partner with Serenade and the Official Charts Company for the first chart-recognized NFT album format.
“Muse has always been at the forefront of technological innovation and was one of the first music artists to pioneer Web3 in 2020. Her fans have an appetite for collectible rarities, and this format brings her closer to Muse than ever before, propelling her into a new space and offering a totally unique experience.”
Max Shand, Founder of Serenade added, “As a simple, standardized and chart-ready format, Digital Pressings will be a game changer on the global stage and we could not have achieved this without the support of the visionary teams at Warner Records and the Official Charts Company , who all want to give artists every opportunity to bring creativity and innovation to their campaigns.
“I’ve always been a huge fan of Muse, so I’m really excited that they will be the first artist to do a digital pressing with Serenade.”
What is an NFT?
NFT stands for “non-fungible token” and refers to digital data that cannot be replicated.
It is stored in a blockchain that provides security to the customized NFT.
NFTs are often collectible and can be used for media such as artwork, music, or any online data.
When will Will of the People be out?
Muse’s ninth studio album is due out on Friday, August 26th.
