Mom arrested after her 3-year-old son’s body was found decaying in the freezer of a Detroit home

A mother has been arrested after police discovered the decomposing body of her three-year-old son in the freezer of her home.

Corresponding The Detroit Newspolice officers and members of child protection services came to the Detroit home on Friday morning for a wellness check. When the 30-year-old woman opened the door, the Detroit Police Chief walked up Jacob Weiss claimed authorities immediately felt something was wrong as she was acting strangely during their interaction:

“She tried to push the officers away like nothing was going on. Something was wrong with the conversation.”

Unfortunately, their suspicions were proved correct when officers entered the home to find five children in utter misery – and the decomposing body of another young child, aged three Chase Allen, in the freezer in the basement. Awful…

After the horrifying discovery, the mother was arrested and her other five children were taken to the hospital. white said:

“This case shocked me and our investigators. The other children who were in the home – imagine what they went through. Imagine what they endured in that house. You can imagine that they will all suffer from some degree of trauma. We will learn more in the coming hours and days after interviewing the children.”

In addition to interviewing her children, White noted that they check whether the mother has had past contact with the Detroit Police Department or the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. According to the boy’s grandmother Tony HaynesShe and other family members called the youth welfare office “dozens of times” this year. Grandma shared The Detroit News that she became suspicious of her daughter when she allegedly told her that Chase burned her hand touching some pasta one day:

“I knew that was bullshit. I called CPS about her. A lot of us called and they came out and gave her their kids back.”

Haynes revealed the young man, who was blind, had not been seen since March and recounted Fox 2 News:

“She (the mother) couldn’t handle it, and we all said if you can’t handle it, give it to us.”

After the state visited the mother’s home multiple times, Haynes claimed she told her that Chase had moved to Coldwater, Michigan to live with his paternal grandfather’s girlfriend. She added:

“But then[the grandfather]came out of jail and he told me that Chase doesn’t live with his girlfriend.”

The family decided to go to the house two weeks ago to confront the mother and then call Child Protective Services again. Unfortunately, they then found Chase dead in the freezer. Haynes commented on the publication.

“You have no idea how mad I am about that.”

Investigators don’t know how long the baby’s body sat in the freezer or if his siblings knew he was buried there.

A GoFundMe Page was created by Haynes to help cover the cost of Chase’s funeral, as well as some clothing and other essentials for the surviving children. She wrote:

“If anyone has anything other than money to donate to the children we would really appreciate that as well as the mother is incarcerated.”
