Adrien Rabiot is expected to join Manchester United from Juventus this summer.

The Red Devils are believed to still be interested in long-term target Frenkie de Jong but the Dutchman is not keen on a move to Old Trafford and the player’s future has been up in the air for months.

While they are willing to pay the £55m needed to sign De Jong, the midfielder would rather stay in Spain.

However, he has also been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea, who have also been in talks with Barcelona – although it seems unlikely he will leave the Nou camp at all.

As a result, United have turned their attention to Rabiot, who appears to be a much cheaper alternative – although he may not delight fans as much as De Jong’s arrival would have.

Who is Adrien Rabiot?

Adrien Rabiot started his career at Paris Saint-Germain and made his league debut at the age of 17.

The Frenchman featured regularly in the starting XI for PSG but helped them win five Ligue 1 titles during his seven years in the first team.

After failing in the pecking order in his last season in Paris, Rabiot joined Juventus on a free transfer in 2019.

The 27-year-old is mostly a regular in Turin and has also added the Serie A title and a Coppa Italia to his trophy case during his stay in Italy.

Rabiot has also made 28 appearances for France since earning his first cap in 2016 – despite not being part of the squad that won the 2018 World Cup.

Despite his clear skills, Rabiot has been widely criticized for his behavior off the pitch and he has been accused of a bad attitude which has led to conflicts with a number of his managers.

Given United’s history of strong characters in the dressing room, it seems unusual for them to be approaching such a player again.

How much will Manchester United pay for Adrien Rabiot?

Manchester United have reportedly agreed a deal with Juventus to bring Rabiot to Manchester for an initial £15million.

The midfielder’s contract expires next summer, so the Italian giants are ready to move him on before he can go on a free transfer.

Talks on personal terms are believed to be at an early stage, while Rabiet also needs to get the green light for his agent and mother, Veronique, to move.

This deal leaves United spending significantly less than if they bought De Jong – although they have to hope it pays off.

Who else has Manchester United been linked with?

Manchester United have been keen to bolster their midfield this summer and will now have to look for other targets than Frenkie de Jong.

One player they have recently been linked with was PSV’s Ibrahim Sangare, with whom they had allegedly been in talks for a €40m move – however the Dutch club have since revealed he has signed a new contract until 2027 has signed.

They were also rumored to have been interested in Wolves’ Ruben Neves and Leicester’s Youri Tielemans at the start of the summer, although that seemed to be calming down – with the latter on the verge of a move to Arsenal.
