Former Love Island winner is helping police as a witness after fatal clash
He is helping the police as a witness after the Mercedes he was driving collided with a motorcycle, killing the driver.
The Love Island winner, 26, was unharmed in the accident in Romford, east London, on Thursday (4 August) and the Metropolitan Police said he stopped at the scene and had not been arrested.
According to his agent, he is supporting the investigation as a “witness”.
What did the police say about the accident?
Detectives with the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are reaching out to anyone who either witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage.
According to a statement from the Metropolitan Police, police were called to an incident involving a collision at Shepherds Hill around 11.30am on 4 August.
Police and London Ambulance Service attended the scene where a Mercedes car collided with a motorcycle.
They said that despite the efforts of medics, around noon a 28-year-old male motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been notified.
It added that the driver of the car stopped at the scene and is currently assisting the police in their investigation. He wasn’t arrested.
Detective Constable Liz Carrey of the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “As our investigation continues, we’d like to hear from anyone who either witnessed this incident or has dashcam footage.
“We are getting an idea of the circumstances surrounding the collision and are asking anyone with information to come forward.”
Did Kem Cetinay comment on the crash?
A spokesman for Cetinay confirmed the TV personality was involved in a traffic accident near his home in the Brentwood area around 11.30am on Thursday.
They added: “Tragically, a motorcyclist died in the collision. Kem assists the police and is only treated as a witness to the incident.
“Kem will have no further comment on this matter other than to offer his deepest condolences, prayers and sympathy to the family and friends of the motorcyclist.”
According to images released by The Sun, Cetinay was driving a Mercedes G Wagon 4×4 at the time, which has a street price of £123,500.
Who is Kem Cetinay?
Cetinay won the ITV reality show Love Island in 2017 with his partner Amber Davis.
He is of Turkish Cypriot descent.
Cetinay and Davis were together until December 2017 but have since split.
Since winning the reality show, he has competed on ITV’s Dancing on Ice in 2018.
Cetinay took fourth place in the competition.
He has been taking part in Soccer Aid since 2019.
He was also a backstage presenter for Dancing on Ice between 2019 and 2020.
Cetinay also has a regular role as a showbiz presenter for the ITV program This Morning.
He has held this position since 2019.
Other shows he has appeared on include: Celebrity Mastermind, Hunted and The Weakest Link – Children in Need Special.
