Colin Murray is the new host of Countdown and he will be the seventh person to take on the role.

He has announced that he will be presenting the show from Thursday July 14 through early November, although he hasn’t given a date for his final broadcast.

The former Weakest Link host confirmed she was leaving the show in May after presenting 265 episodes, admitting at the time that she “stayed longer than I signed up”.

At the time, Murray was acting as Robinson’s deputy.

Robinson took on the role of host for the popular game show last year, becoming its sixth host. She was also the first woman to take on this role.

The show was previously presented by the late Richard Whiteley from 1982 to 2005, Des Lynam from 2005 to 2006, the late Des O’Connor from 2007 to 2008, Jeff Stelling from 2009 to 2011, and Nick Hewer from 2012 to 2021.

The news that Murray will be the new permanent Countdown host was announced by co-host Rachel Riley, who has been on the show herself since 2009.

Colin Murray, 45, is a Northern Ireland television presenter, radio presenter and author.

He is best known for fronting Match Of The Day 2 on BBC One between 2010 and 2013.
