The 26-year-old accepted tick tock on Sunday morning to reveal a horrifying past experience when she was raped unconscious as a teenager. Alec Baldwin‘s daughter explained that she made the decision to have an abortion after her own traumatic experience of sexual assault in her teens and urged that other women should make the same decisions about their lives.

Ireland publicly revealed the tragic event for the first time in the three-minute viral video, initially saying:

“I’m only sharing my story now because I want other women to feel supported and loved, whether they choose to share their own story or not. I’m not here today to tell that story, but I was raped when I was a teenager and I was completely unconscious when it happened and it changed the course of the rest of my life.”

OMG…

She went on to explain that for years she kept it a secret from everyone in her life:

“I never told anyone at the time, not for years. The only person who knew about this was a nurse who treated me shortly after. And I didn’t even tell my own boyfriend at the time. Not my parents. No one.”

Unfortunately, Ireland complained that the aftermath of the attack and the abortion were just as painful. For years, she explained, she drank alcohol and tried other methods of self-medication to take her mind off the pain and terror. As she explained, the young woman also sought out abusive and toxic relationships.

Ireland reflected on her personal privilege in going through this horrific event and turned her thoughts to the what-ifs.

Discussing her feelings, she added:

“As I watched so many other brave women share their stories, I thought about what my life would have been like if I had gotten pregnant and whether I should have had a maybe to everything I was going through back then. Mind you, I have medical resources, money and support that many women don’t have access to. It would have been just traumatizing and impossible.”

Well said.

Baldwin also shared a second time in her life when she unexpectedly became pregnant and chose to have an abortion. At the time, the model was in a turbulent relationship and realized it wasn’t the right situation to raise a child. She was referring to the strained relationship between her own parents, Alec and Kim Basingerand explained her decision to undergo the medical procedure:

“Flash forward to another point in my life when I had a boyfriend and got pregnant. At that point I would say that we were very unhappy together. And he made it clear that he never wanted children or marriage. He hardly wanted to be in a serious relationship. I chose to have an abortion because I know exactly how it feels to be born between two people who hate each other.”

She added:

“I chose myself and I would choose myself again. Could I have had this baby and put it up for adoption? Maybe. Maybe not. But choosing to raise a baby without my own financial security, without a loving and supportive partner, that wouldn’t work for me.”

A very difficult decision – but a mature, sensible, responsible one. And that should be right for all women!

Ireland ended her TikTok reveal by speaking to all the women:
