How to watch Munich European Championships 2022

Munich will host the second edition of the European Championship in the next 11 days

Just a few days after the conclusion of the 2022 Commonwealth Games, athletes are now preparing for the second edition of the European Championships.

Team England enjoyed their best games ever, securing 176 medals – a new record – while Team Scotland celebrated their best away games ever with 51 medals.

However successful these Games were, the athletes are only allowed a brief rest period while Team GB prepares to travel to Germany for the upcoming European Championships.

Earlier this year, the World Championships were held in Oregan, USA ahead of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, but now it’s time for European athletes to get back on track.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Euro 2022…

When are the European Championships 2022?

The championships begin on Thursday, August 11, 2022 and end on Sunday, August 21, 2022. The venue for the multi-sport event is the Munich Olympic Stadium.

Which sports are involved in European Championships?

Organizers have hoped that hosting the nine championships at the same time and in the same city will help them gain more exposure.

Athletics, cycling, triathlon, gymnastics and rowing have all returned after the 2018 edition in Berlin and Glasgow, while beach volleyball, canoe sprint, sport climbing and table tennis will all make their way into the championships.

Rowing and canoe sprint both have parasports events as well.

Swimming and diving will host their own championships simultaneously in Rome.

Who will compete?

Dina Asher-Smith will return to the track after missing the Commonwealth Games through injury. She will hope to defend the three gold medals she won at the 2018 event in Berlin, while Matt Hudson-Smith will hope to defend his 400m title and Zharnel Hughes will aim to win the 100m again .

Commowealth Games star Joe Fraser will once again be in action alongside fellow gymnast Jake Jarman. The pair won seven gold medals together in Birmingham.

Jake Wightman, who won the World 1500m Championship, will join fellow runners and Commonwealth Gold medalists Laura Muir and Eilish McColgan in Munich.
