How Brittney Griner’s wife supports her as trial begins in Russia

But the two-time gold medalist, who has been jailed in Russia since February 17 on drug smuggling charges, has loved no one more than her three-year-old wife. Cherelle Griner.

“BG fights, she’s human,” Cherelle told the Rev. Al Sharpton June 29 on his SiriusXM show Keepin’ It Real. “She’s scared there, she’s alone there.”

Brittney was taken into custody at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport after a search of her carry-on luggage allegedly found vape cartridges containing hash oil inside. On April 29, the US State Department classified them as “wrongfully detained.”

Numerous stars from the WNBA and NBA, including Lebron Jamesto have spoke out for her, and urged the US government to bring them home. A new “Free Brittney” campaign has flooded social media, with fans carrying signs to games to keep their plight in front of the cameras. A floor sticker with their initials and jersey number 42 was placed on the sidelines of all 12 WNBA team venues.
