Heathrow: Britain’s Busiest Airport is a documentary series centered on Heathrow’s staff and passengers
The first season of Heathrow: Britain’s Busiest Airport came to ITV in 2015 and took viewers behind the scenes at the major airport.
The show is now in its eighth season and has a lot more to show us as the travel chaos has been in the headlines for most of the year.
Heathrow is responsible for approximately 1,300 departing and arriving flights per day and has an annual frequency of more than 80 million passengers.
This makes it by far the busiest airport in the country – Gatwick ranks second with around 45 million passengers a year. Humberside Airport handles fewer than 50,000 passengers a year, far fewer than Heathrow sees every day.
Filmed over several months, Heathrow: Britain’s Busiest Airport goes behind the scenes to show viewers just how much planning and manpower it takes to get planes airborne.
The new season will feature new staff and passengers across the airport, from security to check-in desks and grass cutting teams.
What is Heathrow: Britain’s Busiest Airport about?
The documentary series follows the busy lives of Greater London Airport staff who deal with thousands of passengers every day.
The series also depicts angry passengers when they experience delays, cancellations and lost luggage.
The synopsis for the first episode of season eight reads: “Tonight a pilot who needs help from the police flies in with a very disgruntled passenger, fire engines bathe a Boeing Triple 7 and new airline Rwandair has some very charming travelers to do. ”
“Britain’s busiest airport has more planes and more passengers, but with fewer staff, buckle up – it’s going to be bumpy.”
Season eight will also feature Heathrow’s response to Storm Eunice, as well as security breaches, baggage delays, aerobatic planes and even a proposal.
The show’s seventh season explored how Heathrow responded to the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns. The new season will follow airport staff as passenger numbers pick up again due to ongoing staff shortages.
How many episodes are there?
The eighth season consists of six hour-long episodes that air weekly, with the final episode airing on August 24.
Who is in the cast of Heathrow: Britain’s Busiest Airport?
