Gotham Knights: new trailer and pre-order details

It’s been almost seven years since we got a new entry in the Arkham series of Batman video games, some of the best superhero games of modern times and one of this author’s quintessential gaming franchises.

These games followed The Caped Crusader and brought vigilante justice to the many idiots and crooks running amok in an open world of Gotham City.

But now we have a brand new look at the latest game in the series – despite being one that follows an original story separate from those games – in Gotham Knights.

Here’s everything you need to know about it.

What is Gotham Knights?

Batman fans might be disappointed to find out that The Dark Knight – the focal point of all previous Arkham games – is not in this game…as far as we know.

Instead, Gotham Knights follows its supporting cast and revolves around Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and the Red Hood.

You have been tasked with bringing justice to Gotham City at a time of decline following Batman’s mysterious disappearance.

During the investigation, the heroes come face to face with the Court of Owls, a secret society as old as Gotham itself, and their legion of brainwashed assassins known as the Talons.

Fans might also be discouraged to hear that the team behind the three core games from the previous Arkham games – Rocksteady Studios – is not behind this one.

Instead, development duties will fall to WB Games Montréal, who have already gained experience in the world of Batman through their work on 2013’s criminally underrated Batman: Arkham Origins.

The game is an action role-playing game, again set in an open-world Gotham City where you can play as each of its four playable characters, each with their own unique playstyle and abilities.

While the game can be played solo, it also features a two-person cooperative drop-in drop-out multiplayer mode, allowing a second player to drop in and drop out at any time without affecting the first.

Players can level up their characters and explore the city with vehicles like the Batcycle.

What’s happening in the new trailer?

A new extended gameplay video released by Warner Bros Interactive features Nightwing and Red Hood in Gotham Knight for the first time.

The video gives us a glimpse of each hero’s different combat style and open-world traversal abilities, and is commented on by Game Director Geoff Ellenor.

From Nightwing’s signature acrobatic combat and aerial glides to Red Hood’s dual-wielding skills and massive leaping power, the sophisticated gameplay is showcased to the full.

The game is now scheduled to be released on October 25, 2022 and will be available for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

The game was first announced with PS4 and Xbox One versions, but these have since been scrapped.

Publisher Warner Bros Interactive didn’t give any specific reasons other than that it “would give players the best gaming experience possible.”
