Here’s Garth Crooks’ Premier League Team of the Week and what he had to say about each player.
After a turbulent weekend of action in the Premier League, the first round of play has come to an end, leaving us with some sights worth seeing.
Unsurprisingly, Tottenham and Manchester City recorded comfortable wins, while both Fulham and Bournemouth surprised with draws and wins against Liverpool and Aston Villa respectively.
Meanwhile, some of the Premier League newcomers have excelled in their debuts while others are hoping to forget the last few days.
1. Robert Sanchez
“The flag may have been raised but no one could say for sure that VAR could not have overturned the assistant referee’s decision, which made the save all the more remarkable. Marcus Rashford’s shot was close range but Sanchez’s save changed the game.”
2. Fabian Schar
“Schar’s goal to give Newcastle the opener was beautiful. This footballer can defend and play at the same time.”
3. Eric Dier
“Dier scored his first goal in three years and seems more comfortable in a Tottenham shirt than I’ve seen in a while. If Spurs are serious about fighting for the top spot, Dier needs to put in some pretty spectacular performances this season.”
“That was an impressive start to the season for Frenchman Saliba. It’s early days but Saliba looks like a real defender. “
