Who is Ellie Simmonds?

Simmonds is a retired British Paralympic swimmer who became a household name at the Beijing 2008 Summer Paralympics when she won two gold medals Team GB. At the time, she was the youngest member of the team at 13.

She was born in Walsall on November 11, 1994 and grew up in Aldrige. She became interested in swimming at the age of five, getting up at 5:30 a.m. five days a week to do two hours before school and then another 90 minutes of training.

Simmonds and her mother moved to South Wales when she was 11 to take advantage of Swansea’s world-class 50m pool.

After competing in the 2008 Beijing Paralympics, London 2012, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2021, Simmonds announced that she was retiring from the sport.

At the time, she said, “I don’t think I could go three more years.

“I’m leaving at the right time, I love it, I absolutely had a wonderful competition and I loved every minute of it.”

Earlier this year she was filming a BBC documentary entitled Ellie Simmonds: A world without dwarfism?in which she examined a controversial new drug designed to help children with dwarfism grow to an average height.

  • Five gold, one silver and two bronze medals at the Paralympic Games
  • Eight gold, three silver and four bronze medals at world championships
  • Six gold and one silver medals at world championships (25 m)
  • Seven gold and two silver medals at European Championships

Simmonds also won the gold medal in the 200m individual medley at the 2010 Paralympic World Championships in Manchester.

How tall is Ellie Simmonds?

Simmonds is 1.23 meters tall, which is approximately 1.20 meters.

She was born with achondroplasia, a form of dwarfism that stunts limb growth.

Speaking to BBC Sport ahead of her documentary, Simmonds said: “If I wasn’t a midget I wouldn’t have gone to the Paralympics and I wouldn’t have had a career as an athlete that way.

“So I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, if this drug existed as a kid, would I actually be who I am today?’

Who will be her Strictly Come Dancing partner?

None of the contestants have announced themselves for the latest season of Be sure to come dance still know who their professional dance partners are.

Both the celebrities and the dancers are expected to find out who their partners will be during the launch show on September 7th.

What did she say about joining Strictly Come Dancing?

In a statement, Simmonds said: “Oh my god! I’m bursting with excitement! It was so hard to keep this secret as I wanted to tell everyone.

“I will continue Be sure to come dance! I’m a little nervous too, more than a little… I’m absolutely petrified!

“Being asked to join the Strictly family is just so exciting and I can’t wait, it’s going to be so much fun.

“I’m counting the minutes until it starts; Learn to dance, meet my partner and everyone else involved in the show. Plus wearing the sequins and all, it’s gonna be a blast.
