Conservatives are once again going insane Disney with LGBTQIA+ representation.

Far-right writer earlier this week Christopher T Rufo revealed he received “leaked video” from an episode of Baymax! (a new spinoff series on Disney+ based on the beloved robot from big hero 6), in which a transmasculine character shops in the tampon aisle. And of course the leaked scene, which lasts less than a minute, immediately sparked outrage among Conservatives Twitter.

The scene in question takes place in the third episode, when a 12-year-old girl named Sofia goes to the all-gender restroom and discovers that she first got her period just before she was due to perform on the school’s talent show . Freaking out, she yells at Baymax:

“I wasn’t prepared for that! And the dispenser is empty! And I don’t even have anything! a tampon. A padpon. A maxi pad pon with wings?”

Baymax, who specializes in health care, goes to the supermarket to get the necessary period products for the child. While in the store, he takes advice from several shoppers on which pad options to choose, including a transgender man wearing a transgender pride flag t-shirt. The character says:

“I always take the ones with wings.”

Well, this is a big and important moment! Not only is it rare for networks and streaming services to showcase sexual health like periods on a series, let alone kids shows, but Baymax! reinforced it by showing that many people menstruate — and not just cisgender women.

And while many people on social media loved seeing this portrayal of Disney, there were of course conservatives and transphobic trolls who criticized the company for imposing a “wake up” agenda on children. As Christopher tweeted, he felt the show was “part of Disney’s plan to reshape the discourse on children and sexuality.” Texas State Representative Bryan Slaton also wrote:

“This is so sick and weird. We have to protect children from the sick adults who want to sexualize them and let them be children.”

One social media user simply replied that Christopher, who saves his children, would be “uncomfortable” talking about anyone’s period in general, writing:

“People read this and tell me I’m a bad parent because my 15th [year-old] Junge doesn’t feel comfortable discussing a woman’s cycle, like it would be a badge of honor for me if he did. We’re sorry? Have you met 15 years? Meins talks about computers, politics, food and memes. And paintball. I love it.”

What the hell. Serious?!

However, many fans soon took to social media to defend the show, praising it for having LGBTQIA+ representatives and openly discussing periods. See the answers (below):

“Saying that periods are about sexuality is what sexualizes kids. It’s a bodily function and we should talk about it more and be less ashamed of it.”

“op needs to shut up because this clip makes me so happy. There is no beating around the topic and no substitute words are used, there is a father who is not ashamed to help his daughter, the trans character feels comfortable, everyone supports him. Can I have some more, please”

“Wait, why is that annoying? Didn’t Tadashi develop baymax as a health robot? Why are you crazy about periods?”

“Why are you all mad that the health robot is talking about health? He literally does his job”

“This is awesome! It’s sooo cool to see a show that talks openly about periods and how everyone is so supportive of them! Baymax is working on health and good that he’s learning this! It’s also amazing to see a trans man being taken in This clip makes me happy!”

We can’t say this enough, but this is such an important moment for transgender representation and the normalization of menstrual education. Reactions to the scene, Perezcious readers? Let us know.
