Will Derry Girls have a fourth season?

There will be no fourth season of Derry Girls as Season 3 is the final part of the series.

Show writer and Derry native Lisa McGee announced in a September 2021 statement that she would not be returning for a fourth season.

McGee said: “It was always the plan to say goodbye after three series.

“Derry Girls is a coming-of-age story: we follow five ridiculous teenagers who slowly… very slowly… start to grow up while around them the place they call home also begins to change and Northern Ireland entering a new, more hopeful phrase – that was a small, magical window of opportunity.”

When is the Derry Girls season 3 finale?

The Derry Girls Season 3 finale airs May 17 at 9pm on Channel 4.

Speaking to the Guardian, Dylan Llewellyn, who plays James, said the end of the series will be “a perfect conclusion”.

When is the Derry Girls bonus finale episode “Agreement”?

The bonus episode “Derry Girls” entitled “Agreement” will air on May 18th at 9pm on Channel 4 the day after the Season 3 finale.

The special episode picks up a year later and follows the group of friends as they prepare for their final year of high school, just before the Good Friday Agreement is signed.

The synopsis for the episode reads: “It’s referendum week on the Good Friday Agreement and the timing couldn’t be worse as the highlight of the year, Erin and Orla’s 18th birthday celebration, threatens to be overshadowed.

“As the family tries to grapple with the possible outcomes of the vote, the gang realizes they may not be ready for what the future holds.”

McGee took to Twitter to announce the bonus episode, tweeting, “Surprise, surprise.”

In a statement announcing the episode, McGee called the special an “encore for our loyal fans.”

Will there be a Derry Girls movie?

There are currently no plans for a Derry Girls film.

On the red carpet at the season 3 premiere in Derry, McGee dispelled rumors about Sunday Life film plans.

She said: “A film is off my radar right now, not right now. You never know, but I have other commitments, as does Michael.”

However, when asked about the possibility of a spin-off series, McGee commented: “What I want to do is a spin-off with Ma Mary and Aunt Sarah that solves crime and starts a detective agency in Derry. Wouldn’t that be amazing?”
