Here’s everything you need to know about the UEFA Champions League group stage draw.

After a thrilling start to the new Premier League season, which saw both Manchester United and Liverpool fail to claim a win, all eyes will soon return to the UEFA Champions League.

The Reds were beaten by Real Madrid in last year’s final and are keen to get revenge this time, while Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham will also start their European tours in the group stage.

Ahead of the group stage, 32 clubs are drawn, including six clubs that manage to advance through the five qualifying rounds before the crucial play-off round.

The likes of Rangers, Benfica and PSV will all take part in the first leg of the play-offs this week in a bid to secure their place in the much-anticipated European competition.

Before the start of the group stage, we first look forward to the much-anticipated draw to see who will go into the eight groups of four.

When is the Champions League group stage draw?

The Champions League group stage takes place next week on Thursday 25th August 2022.

The draw will take place in Istanbul, Turkey, the venue for the 2023 Champions League final.

When is the draw?

The Champions League group stage draw takes place at 16:00 CET.

Istanbul are two hours ahead of Britain, so they kick off at 6pm in Turkey.

Each of the 32 teams is drawn from four different points, with one team from each pot making up the four teams in each group.

Pot 1 consists of the defending champions of the Champions League and Europa League (Real Madrid and Frankfurt) and the reigning champions of the top six nations (Real Madrid, Manchester City, PSG, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Porto).

With Los Blancos already qualifying for Pot 1 through last season’s Champions League, their spot will be awarded to the next best nation, namely the Netherlands (Ajax).

The remaining three pots are then based on the UEFA club coefficient list, with all three remaining Premier League clubs being placed in Pot 2.

The first game of the group stage is scheduled to start on September 6th in three weeks’ time and end less than two months later on November 2nd.
