The union said the strike action came as the company offered a pay rise of 3.6% in 2022 and 4.2% next year, which it described as a real pay cut due to rising inflation.

What did Unite say?

Sharon Graham, Unite General Secretary, said: “The parent company RATP is incredibly wealthy and can afford to give our members a fair wage increase.

“Unite members play a vital role in keeping London moving and they will not take it easy if their pay keeps falling.

“Unite does what it says on the union can and always defends its members’ jobs, wages and conditions.

“Our members at London United will have the union’s full support until this dispute is resolved and a fair salary offer is secured.”

Unite Regional Officer Michelle Braveboy added: “Strike action will cause significant disruption to passengers across London.

“This dispute is of the company’s own making, it can offer its workers a fair wage offer, but has decided against it, so it now faces the prospect of a highly disruptive strike.”
