Sean “Diddy” Combs will host the ceremony, where winners will be chosen based on album and song sales, radio airplay, social media engagement, streaming and tour dates.

Who is nominated?

With 17 nominations, The Weeknd has received the most artists for the second year in a row.

The Billboard Icon Award goes to Mary J. Blige.

Ed Sheeran is nominated for nine gongs at this year’s BBMAs, including Best Male Artist, alongside Drake, The Weeknd, Justin Beiber and Lil Nas X, which he previously won in 2018.

Adele and Dua Lipa battle Taylor Swift, Doja Cat and Olivia Rodrigo for the title of Best Female Artist.

Glass Animals, an Oxford-based indie band, will compete against Korean septet BTS in the Top Duo/Group category, and will also compete for Best Rock Band and Best Streaming Song for their viral hit ‘Heat Waves’.

With the track, the band set a new US chart record for longest stay in the top 10 on Billboard’s singles chart last November.

After 42 weeks on the charts, they finally peaked at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, the longest at the top in their 63-year history.

Sheeran will join acts like rapper Travis Scott as part of the lineup for the 2022 BBMAs.

The multi-award winning singer-songwriter will perform live from Belfast where his Mathematics Tour is running.

A “crowd flood” claimed the lives of at least 10 people and many others were injured – officials took 17 people to hospital, 11 of whom suffered cardiac arrest.

The rapper continued to perform his headline set and later claimed he didn’t know any people were harmed.

Mary J. Blige was the first cast member to be revealed for the BBMAs before five new acts were later added to the roster, including four newcomers: Rauw Alejandro, Megan Thee Stallion, Latto and Burna Boy.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers will be performing at the awards for the first time since 1999, and Silk Sonic, Florence + the Machine, Maxwell and Morgan Wallen have all been added to the list since then.

How can I view it?

The BBMAs will be broadcast live from Las Vegas at 1am UK time on Sunday 15th May (which means they will technically take place in the early hours of 16th May for UK viewers).

The BMMAs will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena for the 18th time and for the first time since 2019.
