Benjamin Mendy pleads guilty to the eighth count of rape
Mendy entered the plea bargain at a court hearing with preparations for a trial well underway. The 28-year-old has now denied eight counts of rape, one count of sexual assault and one count of attempted rape, the hearing was told.
He was suspended from the club after being charged by police.
When will he be brought to justice?
An order had barred the media from publishing the latest indictment until the order was overturned by Recorder of Chester Judge Steven Everett during a hearing at Chester Crown Court in June.
He was due to stand trial on July 25, 2022 in a three-month ordeal at which all eight alleged victims are scheduled to testify.
However, the trial has since been postponed, with the final start date set for Wednesday, August 10, 2022.
Mendy has now pleaded not fraudulent in his preliminary hearing and is now set to stand trial with his co-defendant Louis Saha Matturi, 40.
What is Benjamin Mendy accused of?
The latest allegation, which relates to a new complainant, means the 27-year-old faces eight counts of rape, one count of sexual assault and one count of attempted rape, relating to seven women between October 2018 and last August.
Matturie, from Eccles, Salford, denies eight counts of rape and four counts of sexual assault involving eight women between July 2012 and August last year.
Both men are on bail and as part of the terms of his bail, Mendy had to forfeit his passport and reside at his home in Cheshire.
He was also told not to contact complainants.
