The sequel to James Cameron’s Avatar is finally due out, 13 years after the original record-breaking film hit theaters

A trailer for the highly anticipated Avatar sequel has now been released.

What will Avatar 2 be called?

The first Avatar sequel will be called Avatar: The Way of Water.

It was first reported by the BBC 2018 that this is a possible title for the second film, and then in 2019 in an interview with entertainment tonight Avatar director, writer, producer and associate editor James Cameron confirmed that this is “one of the titles under consideration”.

Avatar 2 follows the release of the 2009 epic sci-fi adventure Avatar, which became one of the highest grossing films worldwide.

Set in the year 2154, it tells the story of a paraplegic Marine, Jake Sully, who decides to take his place on a mission to the distant world of Pandora, home of the Na’vi – a race of blue-skinned aliens.

Jake is asked by the cooperating military unit to infiltrate the Na’vi people using an avatar identity made to look like the Na’vi race.

He agrees to this in exchange for the spinal surgery that will fix his legs, but when he travels to Pandora he begins to bond with the native tribe and quickly falls in love with the beautiful alien Neytiri.

The first Avatar sequel will be called Avatar: The Way of Water.

What will Avatar 2 be about?

Fans will have to wait a little longer to find out exactly what the plot of Avatar: The Way of Water will be like, as details are being kept secret for now.

However, Cameron did give audiences a first look at the film with a teaser trailer at Las Vegas CinemaCon – and UK fans will be seeing the same footage in the coming days.

While introducing the film, Cameron told the crowd that with the new film he would be “testing the limits of what cinema can do” and each viewer was given 3D glasses to view the new footage.

According to the Hollywood reporterthe second film takes place more than a decade after the events of the first film.

The teaser trailer focuses on Jake and Neytiri and includes footage of Pandora’s bright blue waters, both above and below the surface.

Toruk, the flying creatures introduced in the first film, are featured as well as new whale-like creatures.

The synopsis of the film IMDB reads: “Jake Sully lives on the planet Pandora with his newfound family.

“When a familiar threat returns to end what was previously started, Jake must work with Neytiri and the army of the Na’vi race to protect their planet.”

Disney, which will be distributing the Avatar sequels as a result of the Disney-Fox merger, has announced that they will be attaching the teaser trailer to the theatrical release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits UK cinemas on Thursday 5th May.

The footage will then be posted online a week later.

Who will be in the Avatar 2 cast?

Lead actors Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana will reprise their roles as Jake and Neytiri in Avatar: The Way of Water

Sigourney Weaver will also return as Doctor Grace Augustine, while Stephen Lang will also return as Colonel Miles Quaritch.

The film also features some well-known newcomers, including Cameron’s Titanic star Kate Winslet and Vin Diesel.

Little is known about Winslet and Diesel’s characters, as information about their involvement in the film has been kept under wraps.

It has been revealed that Winslet’s character named Ronal will be part of Avatar’s new racial expansion on Pandora.

In conversation with vanity fair In 2017, Cameron announced that Winslet would “play a character that’s part of the Sea People, the Reef People.”

Diesel’s character remains a complete mystery.

When will Avatar 2 be released in the UK?

Avatar: The Way of Water hits US theaters on December 16 this year.

A UK release date has not yet been confirmed.

The film is slated to be released in multiple formats including 2D, 3D, IMAX and more.

What Happens in the Avatar Trailer?

The trailer, which lasts about a minute and a half, begins with a group of Na’vi leaping into the treetops and flying over the sea on Toruk.

There are then numerous shots of the Na’vi riding the new whale-like creatures in the sea, seemingly preparing for battle with weapons while tranquil music plays.

The only line in the trailer comes from Worthington’s character Jake Sully.

He says: “I know one thing. Wherever we go, this family is our stronghold.”

What will the third, fourth or fifth film be called and when will they be released?

The names of the third, fourth, and fifth Avatar films have not yet been confirmed, but Cameron has said that at least some of the footage for the other sequels was shot back-to-back with Avatar: The Way of Water.

According to 2018 BBC articlemay be the names of the films Avatar: The Seed Bearer, Avatar: The Tulkun Rider, and Avatar: The Quest for Eywa.

They are scheduled for release in the US on December 20, 2024, December 18, 2026, and December 22, 2028.

No UK release dates have been announced for any of these three films.
