US actress Anne Heche, 53, was involved in a serious car accident that left her in critical condition, American media sources reported.
So what happened to Anne Heche – and what’s the latest on her condition?
Who is Anne Heche?
Anne Heche made her name on the long-running US television series Another World between 1984 and 1992, for which she won an Emmy.
The series also promoted the careers of Goodfellas actor Ray Liotta and House of Cards actress Joanna Going.
Heche had several prominent film roles in the late 1990s, including Donnie Brasco, Vulcan, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Six Days, Seven Nights.
After those roles, she appeared in several TV shows including Men in Trees, Hung, Aftermath and The Brave.
Several series she will appear in are currently in post-production, including an HBO TV series called The Idol, starring The Weeknd and Lily Rose-Depp.
Heche will also appear opposite Alec Baldwin in a film called Supercell, as well as a horror film – Chasing Nightmares – in which she will star with Highlander star Graham McTavish.
In the late 1990s, Heche was in a relationship with celebrity TV host Ellen DeGeneres — a romance that ended in a high-profile split in 2000.
The actor later teamed up with Canadian actor James Tupper, who starred in Revenge and Big Little Lies.
The couple separated in 2018.
Heche has previously revealed that she suffers from mental health issues that stem in part from sexual abuse, which she says she suffered from her father when she was a child.
What happened to Anne Heche?
Photos and footage obtained by the news site appear to show Heche in a blue Mini Cooper, which was later shown to have sustained extensive damage.
It was reported that the actor first crashed into an apartment complex garage before backing out of the damaged building and speeding away.
Later, the same car is seen by a doorbell camera speeding down a residential street in the Mar Vista neighborhood before an explosion is heard.
The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) said: “It took 59 firefighters 65 minutes to access, contain and completely extinguish the persistent flames in the badly damaged structure.
“A grown woman [was] found in vehicle, which was rushed to a nearby hospital by LAFD paramedics in critical condition.”
TMZ has reported that Anne Heche suffered severe burns, although this has not been officially confirmed.
According to reports, the occupant of the house escaped unharmed.
Firefighters said the two-story home was rendered uninhabitable by the accident and the car was plowed about 30 feet into the residence.
No official reason for the incident has been given at this time.
