Anne Heche has died at the age of 53 after being taken off life support following a car accident in Los Angeles last week.

The US actress suffered a “severe anoxic brain injury” and was immediately hospitalized for her injuries sustained in the crash in Los Angeles’ Mar Vista neighborhood on August 5.

Anne Heche made a name for herself on the long-running US TV soap Another World between 1984 and 1992, for which she won an Emmy.

The series also promoted the careers of Goodfellas actor Ray Liotta and House of Cards actress Joanna Going.

Heche had several prominent film roles in the late 1990s, including Donnie Brasco, Vulcan, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Six Days, Seven Nights.

After those roles, she appeared in several TV shows including Men in Trees, Hung, Aftermath and The Brave.

Several series she will appear in are currently in post-production, including an HBO TV series called The Idol, starring The Weeknd and Lily Rose-Depp.

What happened to Anne Heche?

Photos and footage obtained by the news site appear to show Heche in a blue Mini Cooper, which was later shown to have sustained extensive damage.

The 53-year-old was taken to the hospital after the crash in the Mar Vista area of ​​Los Angeles.

It comes shortly after the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) confirmed to the PA news agency that the incident was being investigated as a traffic accident while under the influence (DUI).

An LAPD spokesman said preliminary blood tests revealed the presence of drugs in Heche’s system, but added that additional tests are needed to rule out substances that were administered at the hospital.

The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) said: “It took 59 firefighters 65 minutes to access, contain and completely extinguish the persistent flames in the badly damaged structure.

“A grown woman [was] found in the vehicle, which was rushed by LAFD paramedics to a nearby hospital in critical condition.”

What did her family say?

Nancy Davis confirmed her friend’s death in a post on Instagram.

She said, “Heaven has a new angel. My loving, kind, funny, lovely and beautiful friend @anneheche went to heaven. I will miss her terribly and cherish all the beautiful memories we shared.

“Anne was always the kindest, most thoughtful person who always brought out the best in me. She was so supportive with anything she could do to help @racetoerasems and always said yes when she knew she could contribute her time, talent and creative genius to find a cure for MS. My heart is broken.”

A statement shared with PA on behalf of her family says the actress was on temporary life support while she was hospitalized.

“We would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes and prayers for Anne’s recovery and to thank the dedicated staff and wonderful nurses who cared for Anne at Grossman Burn Center at West Hills Hospital,” the statement said.

“Unfortunately, as a result of her accident, Anne Heche suffered a severe anoxic brain injury and is in a critically comatose state. She is not expected to survive,” the statement said.

“It has long been her decision to donate her organs and she is being kept alive to see if any are viable.

The statement added: “Anne had a big heart and touched everyone she met with her generous spirit.

“More than her extraordinary talent, she saw her life’s work in spreading kindness and joy — specifically, moving the needle to accepting who you love.

“She will be remembered for her courageous honesty and will be greatly missed for her light.”

According to reports, the occupant of the house escaped unharmed.

Firefighters said the two-story home was rendered uninhabitable by the accident and the car was plowed about 30 feet into the residence.
