A New York City woman died after her Brazilian butt lift surgery went horribly wrong.
on May 13, Tandra Bowser-Williams flew from the United States to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic for a cosmetic procedure that would involve transferring fat cells from her stomach to her butt—what’s known as the Brazilian butt lift. Before she left, the correctional officer gave her husband all the details — she was so excited about how dr Hector Cabral wanted to change her body. Remembered what his wife said to him before she left Curtis Williams told the New York Daily News:
“Her exact words to me were, ‘You will be Dr. Love Cabral’s work.’ I didn’t care either way. I accepted my wife for who she was.”
Unfortunately, her husband was never able to see the results of the surgery as Tandra suffered from post-operative complications and died.
The couple had been married since 1996. How devastating to eventually lose a spouse, especially one he had spent over two decades with.
So what happened in that operating room? dr Cabral called Tandra’s husband shortly after the surgery to tell him the devastating news: she had suffered a massive stroke that “choked her brain.”
Williams said that during the call he could hear his wife trying to speak and he could tell she was in pain:
“I heard my wife in the background and she was complaining about her stomach and butt.”
Unfortunately, Curtis wouldn’t make it to the Dominican Republic in time to see his wife before she died, but that’s not all. He said the surgeon woke Tandra from her coma to unlock her phone!
“They got my wife out of her medically induced coma so she could unlock her phone so she could reach me.”
What?! You woke her up after a stroke to unlock her phone?! Was there no other way to contact her husband? Didn’t she have to fill out an emergency contact form before going under the knife?
Suffering a stroke and then waking up from a medically induced coma sounds like a nightmare. The pain and confusion she must have felt at that moment is unimaginable…
Not only that, the surgeon who performed the surgery has apparently been in trouble with the law before! In 2011, he was charged with “luring women to the Dominican Republic” by promising discounted surgeries. He is said to have left at least 10 women permanently disfigured as a result of his misconduct. Because of this, he was charged with fraud and conspiracy and operated on 10 cases without a doctor’s license.
That’s right, the man doesn’t even have a medical license and is performing surgery! WTF!

The unlicensed surgeon reportedly struck a no-prison deal with prosecutors in which he pleaded guilty to one charge of unlawful practice of medicine. He was fined $5,000, ordered to pay over $23,000 in damages and 250 hours of community service.
So now he’s been convicted ELEVEN Charged with medical malpractice and all he had to do was pay a fine and do community service? He should have his medical license revoked – oh, that’s right – he doesn’t even have one. How can he keep his practice open?!
Unfortunately, despite these allegations, Bowser-Williams made the decision to keep Dr. trusting Hector, which devastatingly led to her death. news reports that Tandra’s death is not currently under investigation. However, the fact that they woke the poor woman from a medically-induced coma just to get into her phone is a big red flag. Seriously, what happened in there?
Tandra will be sorely missed, and not just by her husband. Your boss, Patrick FerraioloShe spoke candidly to the newspaper about her incredible work ethic:
“She’s always been a good captain, never tried to escape work, always worked in the prisons, always worked with inmates. It’s a real loss. She certainly didn’t deserve that. She was a soldier.”
The trend of lipo tourism is HUGE – with up to 750,000 Americans traveling abroad for cosmetic procedures each year. Unfortunately, many trips end in lawsuits, disfigurement, or even death.
Our hearts go out to Tandra’s family and loved ones.
